Summer in Review

Summer in Miami
So I've been in Miami for just over a year. I've spent my first full summer in this lovely hot city. And what does my blog have to show for it? Uh...yeah. So I thought I'd just give a recap of my Summer. Now that I'm working, I find that Summer really isn't anything super special. Its just hotter and more people come to visit me. But I did take some time off to enjoy myself.

Visits with My B's

So these were more Spring-ish but what the hey. Miami is clearly a place that people would be more likely to visit than any of the other places I've lived. So I'm happy to say that I got plenty of visits from my friends. First, Emily and Melissa came down for a few days. It pretty much rained the entire time. But we went down to Camp Pennekamp in Key Largo and took a glass bottom boat tour. Very cool minus the slight bouts of seasickness from staring at the bottom too much. Following this trip, Emily and Melissa planned a trip up to New York to see our friend Deva. I took a look at flights and decided I could swing it. We just didn't tell Deva I was coming. We almost let it slip a few times but when I showed up at her apartment she was definitely surprised. We did lots of fun touristy things (I've been to NYC a million times but I still love these tings): such as going to Dillon's and Serendipity. We also went to see Guys & Dolls which is where we got to meet Lauren Graham. After that trip, Deva had scheduled a trip down to Miami to see me. Once again it was rainy. But we took a day cruise to the Bahamas. That in itself was a crazy adventure. But we made it back alive and I got to eat my favorite thing: conch!


Carnival Caribbean Cruise

My only real vacation this summer was a Carnival cruise. We went to Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman. It was our family's first cruise so we were a bit wary. We turned out to be wrong. It was probably one of the best trips we've taken as a family. Delicious food at all hours, lots of entertainment, and just a good time. We had an incident in Ocho Rios involving the zip line at Magic Mountain. Basically an employee made a mistake and the ride didn't have any sort of back up safety precautions. I'm not going to go into detail about it but it wasn't pretty. But even so we all had a fantastic time on the cruise and we can't wait for another one.


Other things

So a few other things I did this summer. I went to my first convention. SuperCon. Well lets just say it was interesting. Apparently it wasn't the most well-put together and/or most exciting convention ever. I only went because I wanted to meet the guy who played Victor Krum in Harry Potter. But of course that day there was a torrential downpour and I didn't show up until after his panel and he had left already. He was going to be back the next day but I wasn't going to pay to come back. We saw Bruce Campbell talk. He was funny. And then I went to take a picture with this guy from Twilight for my friend who is obsessed with it. I couldn't care less but since Victor wasn't there I waited in line for this guy. On to other things. After our cruise, my sister stayed with me for a few weeks. I wanted her to stay until the newest Harry Potter movie came out so we could go see it together. I took her around to a bunch of things. We spent some time at the beach and we went back to Camp Pennekamp but this time we went snorkeling. I swallowed to much seawater and started getting nauseas. We went to see Harry Potter which was craziness. We got there hours and hours early and there was a ridiculous line several hundreds of people long. Luckily we got good seats in our theater. Loved the movie alot. Finally, I went home to Virginia for a week at the end of August. Visited with family and friends and went up to Atlantic City for some good old fashioned casino fun. And that was that.
